Summer Montana Wedding at Alpine Falls Ranch: A Videographer’s Perspective
Planning a summer Montana wedding? If you’re looking for a venue that balances wild mountain beauty with refined elegance, look no further than Alpine Falls Ranch. Having filmed several weddings here, I can confidently say this venue is a true gem, perfect for couples who want that authentic Montana feel without sacrificing luxury and design (p.s stay until the end to view my latest wedding film done at Alpine Falls Ranch.
Why Alpine Falls Ranch Is a Dream Venue in Montana
1.The "Getting Ready" and Preparation Spaces
There is a stunning home included in Alpine Falls's cabin collection named “The Black Bear Chalet” that is commonly used for getting ready and hosting overnight stays. It's warm and elevated interior nods to the rustic theme, and the back deck the overlooking the mountains makes this a spot perfect for your morning-of preparation, first looks, exchanging gifts, and capturing bridal portraits. As a wedding videographer, I have witnessed all of these events take place here, each were cinematic, authentic, and beautiful.
Typically, I’ve seen this space used by the bride and the bridesmaids, while the groom and groomsmen get ready in one of the other cabins, creating some separation between the two. I've also seen it utilized by family members (typically older) as a place to relax before the ceremony starts.
Another special element of the Black Bear Chalet is that, sitting on a sprawling 800 acre's of property, it’s the closest accommodation to the main ceremony site. You’ll still need to take a shuttle to get there, but that only adds to the exciting anticipation of your ceremony experience.
2. Diverse Settings for Ceremony, Reception, & Photos
One of the things that makes Alpine Falls Ranch so special is its variety. The ranch offers multiple ceremony and reception sites, along with countless settings for dreamy bridal photos and videos.
Your ceremony may be hosted in an open grassy meadow beneath a vast mountain landscape, often referred to as the glamping field, or at the charming Six8 Saloon. Your reception may take place inside or outside the Saloon, or at the luxurious Villa, which offers an outdoor area suitable for tented dinners and dancing. Beyond these staples, the photography and videography opportunities are endless. I’ve filmed couples at the entrance of the ranch alongside the creek, amongst the clamping field ceremony site, inside the Six8 Saloon capturing the iconic “bar” scenes you may have on your Pinterest board, in front of the emerald pond beside the Villa, and in front of the Villa itself, showcasing the beautiful architecture and stonework.
As a videographer, this diversity is pure gold. I can capture dramatic mountain vistas, serene forest backdrops, and charming ranch architecture all in one wedding. That variety creates visually rich wedding films that truly tell the full story of your day.
3. The Iconic Villa & Cocktail Hour Magic
My personal favorite spot on Alpine Falls Ranch? The villa. This space is absolutely dreamy: chic, elevated, and intimate, offering the perfect place for a cocktail hour that feels like its own event. The villa’s stonework, large windows, and surrounding views provide natural, soft light that’s ideal for candid shots and cinematic video moments.
During cocktail hour, the villa becomes a mingling hotspot with guests wandering about, sipping drinks, laughing, and enjoying themselves. For me as a videographer, it’s the kind of place where I can capture real connection in a luxurious, natural way.
4. That Authentic Montana Feel
Alpine Falls Ranch is deeply rooted in its location. From the pine trees to the mountain ridges, from open meadows to flowing water, it feels like Montana. And yet, the ranch doesn’t feel like a backwoods camp, there’s a thoughtful elegance there. The venue walks that perfect line between wilderness and sophistication.
Couples can lean into the wild feel (think boho mountain chic), or lean into elegance (think classic modern ranch wedding). That flexibility means your wedding can reflect your personal style, and as a videographer, I get to help you bring that style to life in motion.
What Makes Filming at Alpine Falls Ranch Special (From a Videographer’s Perspective)
- Natural Light: In the summer, the long golden hours make for incredible soft, warm light through the tress. That dreamy “golden glow” is something that makes wedding films feel cinematic.
- Sound & Ambience Options: Whether you want the gentle rustling of leaves, the distant calling of birds, or the light hum of laughter in the villa, the sound design potential is huge. If you're traveling out of state to get married here in Montana, your film will bring you right back to how it felt spending time here through the audio and sound design.
- Accessibility & Logistics: From a gear and logistics standpoint, the different areas (villa, fields, forest) are manageable and accessible, but still feel separate, giving me creative freedom without making it a burden.
- Storytelling Potential: This venue tells a cohesive story, the journey from meadow ceremony, through cocktail hour in the villa, into the reception under the stars or inside the upscaled saloon. As a videographer, I lean into that narrative structure when planning my shots.
My Recommendation for Couples Choosing Alpine Falls Ranch
If you’re looking for a Montana wedding venue that offers both wild nature and elegant structure, I can’t recommend Alpine Falls Ranch enough. Here are some pro tips:
- Visit at Sunset: The golden light on the meadows and over the villa is stunning. Ask your planner or coordinator to time things so you can take advantage.
- Design for the Villa: Use the villa for a magical cocktail hour, string lights, soft bar lighting, small lounge areas. It makes for gorgeous video and photography.
- Plan Portrait Timing: Work with your photographer and videographer (me 😉) to decide what specific locations to utilize for your portraits. Since there are so many options it's important to plan ahead. My personal favorites are the entrance of the ranch which includes a creek, a beautiful stone arch with soft ambient light fixtures, and grassy meadows, or the outskirts of the Villa (because I'm all about implementing a whimsical feeling into my films).
- Lean Into Montana Style: Decor that reflects the landscape (wood, stone, delicate florals) will feel right at home here. But don’t be afraid to bring in elevated elements like elegant linens, soft uplighting, or modern table design, they work beautifully.
There are so many other amenities that Alpine Falls offers that I don't list in this blog from catering, the kind staff, the lodging, transportation, and things to do around the area. To learn more about Alpine Falls Ranch visit the website below.
